25 Gifts for Runners: Day 25

25 Dec

Merry Christmas!!!! I hope that everyone has had a wonderful month of December and that your holidays are spent with those that you love! And for those of you who love runners, today is the final installment of the 25 Gifts for Runners series I’ve been doing here at Marathon Beauty!

25. Entry to Your Runner’s Dream Race. Why not surprise the runner in your life with an entry to his or her dream race! Does she really want to run Big Sur? How about Chicago? While some of the most sought after are only done by lottery (Nike Women’s Marathon & New York), and you have to qualify for Boston, a runner would love it if you bought them an entry into Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles and then made a fun trip out of it!

25 Gifts for Runners: Day 19

19 Dec

19.  Ear Warming Headband. This is another gift I specifically asked my brother to get me (it’s in his price range). While I love running in the winter, I hate cold ears because they always make me feel like I’m going to catch a cold soon. This will help my ears stay warm this winter!

25 Gifts for Runners: Days 1-7

8 Dec

While I know December has already begun (things have been crazy), it’s time for 25 gifts for the runner in your life! To take care of days 1-7 I would like to give you seven great stocking stuffers every runner should love! While some may seem mundane, trust me – I would LOVE all of these in my stocking!

1. Bodyglide. While they may not admit where they use it, trust me this will be appreciated.

Bodyglide The Original Anti-Chafe Balm

2. Khiels Lip Balm No. 1. Best lip treatment ever. Has sunscreen in it and isn’t sticky. Wonderful even if the runner in your life isn’t as “girly” as me and doesn’t wear makeup.

Kiehl's Since 1851 Lip Balm #1 - Cranberry

3.Goody Stay Put Hairbands. Really great for keeping your ponytail in place. Nothing is more annoying when your “in place” hairstyle starts to fall loose. To earn extra points, try to pick up some that match the color of her hair!

Goody StayPut Elastics, Black
4. Sunscreen. I prefer Coppertone Sport but everyone is different. Things to look for in a good running sunscreen are the following:

  • SPF above 30
  • “Sweatproof” and/or “Waterproof” on the package
  • “Long lasting” on the package
  • No fragrances – I speak from personal experience, it distracts your racing when you realize you smell like a speeding bottle of Malibu Rum. Hard not to gag mid run.
Neutrogena Ultimate Sport Face, SPF 70, 2.5 Ounce
Coppertone Sport Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 30, Ultra Sweat-Proof, 8-Ounces. (Pack of 2)

5. Gels, Shot Bloks & Sport Beans. The best thing about these is that you can buy them individually or just pick up one pack of blocks and put them in the stocking. While during a race the runner in your life may have a particular routine, giving them a new fuel source during the holidays is the perfect way for them to experiment with something they have never tried. Personally I hope to try the Sport Beans as I have heard great things but have never actually bought them myself!

GU Energy Gel - Peppermint Stick
Black Cherry

Jelly Belly Sport Beans, Lemon Lime Energizing Jelly Beans, 1-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24)

6. iTunes Giftcard. Any denomination and the runner in your life will love it. Whether it is good for five or twenty new songs, this will make any runner’s day!

iTunes Gift Card - Silhouette - $25

7. Nunn. It is the perfect size for a stocking and comes in so many great flavors!

Turkey Trot Tresses

20 Nov

As Turkey Trots come up this week, one of the decisions you’ll be making is how to wear your hair on race day! When choosing race day hair, you have a few choices for medium or long hair: the ponytail, the braid, or the bun.

The Ponytail

The ponytail is the classic choice that is both functional and stylish.

The Bun

I personally love this style is because it keeps my hair not only out of my eyes, but also off of my back and shoulders. This look can also be very romantic and chic, but I highly suggest using more than one hair-holder if you have long hair.

The Braid

Braiding your hair is another great option while running. One of the best parts about braids is that unlike ponytails, there is the option to keep them from swinging. This style also adds an extra level of pizzazz to your running attire if you decide to get creative and do a side braid or fishtail. Plus, if you want to keep your hair off your neck, simply wrap your braid around itself to create a bun and secure with an elastic.
